The Adoptive and Foster Family Coalition of New York’s annual storytelling event shares powerful, personal stories of the people we serve.
This year, we are honoring the international law firm Morrison & Foerster LLP for their invaluable pro bono partnership for the lawsuit the Coalition settled with the State of New York on behalf of New York foster families in 2021. Under the settlement, New York’s Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) will now determine foster care rates by applying a methodology that accounts for costs delineated in the federal Child Welfare Act of 1980. Read more about the landmark case here.
Join us on Thursday October 19th– to celebrate our families and MoFo’s tremendous contributions to families in New York State and our field.
Proceeds from this fundraiser will enable the Coalition to launch a new legal advocacy program to help children in foster, kinship and adoptive families.
Save money and avoid annoying and expensive credit card fees by going old school and sending a check for your sponsorship support.
Featuring the Family Stories Told by…
As a Director of our Post Adoption program in the Hudson Valley and an adoptive mom to three, Trudy shares in the beginning she thought she already knew everything there was to know about adopting a child; only realize to how very much she really didn’t know.
Now, as a Family Support Specialist out of our Central New York AGAPE office and a former AGAPE family, John will tell the tale of how one of the Coalition’s workshops gave him the Secret Decoder Ring for human beings.
A part-time Family Support Specialist for Long Island AGAPE families and also part of an AGAPE family himself, Felix shares how he came to realize and accept that trauma will always be part of the story.
Tomasine is an Advisory Council member and the original director of the Coalition’s Hudson Valley Post Adoption program. Tomasine was raised in kinship care and shares her story about the many roles she played in her family growing up.
Cathy, an AGAPE post-adoptive single mom, believed for a long time that she had the picture perfect adoption.
Paquita, a long-time foster parent who volunteers with us, never thought she could be able to adopt and never thought at 65 she’d be a PTA mom.
